20 Ways to Refresh Your Soul in 15 Minutes (or Less) – Part 1

August 19, 2013 by Jo 1 Comment

Life is busy.  And full.  And chaotic.  And overwhelming.  Sometimes the daily grind has a way of wearing us down.  Life’s unexpected curve balls can throw you off your game.

As a homeschooling mom of four, it can be difficult to find the time to do the things that refresh me.  But I know it’s extremely important to replenish my empty tank so I have something to give out of to my family.  I’ve had to develop ways that help me relax and bring me peace during my busy days even though I can’t have an hour or more to myself.

I thought I’d share twenty ways I refresh my soul in 15 minutes or less.  And these are good whether you are a stay at home mom, you work outside the home, or don’t have children!  Universal, if you will. 😉

20 Ways to Refresh Your Soul in 15 Minutes (or Less)

1.  Get outside

Sometimes just a simple break from inside is all I need.  Let your body soak up some sunshine.  Sit or lie in the grass.  If it’s quiet enough where you are, listen to nature’s callings around you.

2.  Hug like you mean it

Grab hold of your closest loved one and get a real hug.  And when you’re ready to let go, hold on for just a little bit longer.  Allow yourself to just be in that moment.  If you have little ones, snuggle on the couch and savor that time.

3.  Turn on the music

Music speaks to the soul.  Maybe you need some soft worship music.  Or maybe you need to turn up the beat and dance.  Whatever you do,  sing like you mean it!

4.  Stretch your body

Stop what you are doing and focus on stretching your body for a bit.  Stretching relieves tension and stress.  It also helps improve your circulation and may just make you feel a little more energized.

5.  Read scripture out loud

Reading the Word of God can easily change your mindset.  I think reading it out loud when you are feeling overwhelmed or stressed can change the atmosphere.  Speak those words of life over yourself, your family, and into your home!

6.  Set a timer & declutter

I know messes affect me.  If I set 15 minutes aside to declutter a hotspot, it can make me feel so much better.  Is there an area in your house that is weighing on you and affecting your mood?  Or maybe it’s outside and you need to weed for 15 minutes.  Whatever it is, set that timer and just do it.

7.  Pull out a photo album

Go ahead and sit down while looking at some of your favorite pictures.  Reminisce.  Smile. Allow yourself to enjoy the faces of your nearest and dearest.

8.  Light a candle

Candles seem to have a naturally calming effect.  I have to be very careful when I use them in our home with so many little ones running around, but they certainly set a relaxing mood.  If you pick the right scented candle (like one with essential oils) then you also have that added benefit to help you relax, too.

9.  Soak your feet

So you don’t have time to linger in a hot bath?  That’s okay, set up a small tub of warm water and soak your feet for 15 minutes.  I can feel the stress melting away already when I see my foot bath.  Extra points if you add Epsom salt or make it a detox foot bath!

10.  Make a thankful list

Take some time to write down the things you are thankful for in life.  It doesn’t matter what it is, if you’re thankful for it, write it down.   Placing your focus on those things in which you’re grateful will do wonders for your soul.

Thank you for your many suggestions. This past year and a half has made us all extra weary. We cannot get back on the hamster wheel of life , we need to refresh our souls.
