We are officially in summer mode here! Most of the activities that we do during the school year have wrapped up and I am so thankful to have a bit more down time. The kids enjoy it too.
Less activities mean more time at home playing outside, getting into about 500 different projects, and maybe not even changing out of our pjs for the day.
One of the things that I started last summer was giving the kids building challenges with their LEGO bricks when they needed some guided direction in their day. I would just pick the first thing that came to mind and tell them to go build it for me. I continued doing this throughout the school year when I was in between teaching the kids and someone needed to be kept busy.
Well, this summer I am already prepared with a Brick Summer Bucket List. No more pulling ideas out of the thin air for me. I love getting my thinking done ahead of time. 😉
Building Brick Summer Bucket List
This summer bucket list has ten different building brick challenges. One challenge for each week of the summer. You can always use any building bricks or blocks you have on hand. You could also use these as drawing challenges if you have a child that would prefer that.
If you don’t have any LEGO bricks, I recommend starting off your collection with a LEGO set like this. It leaves lots of room for open ended play.
In the building brick summer bucket list, your child will be challenged to create the following:
- Tropical Island
- Favorite Sea Creature
- Favorite Summer Treat
- Roller Coaster
- Convertible Sports Car
- And More!
Fun, right? There are lots of ways these challenges can be used. You could have one specific day each week designated for the challenge. Or you could just save them for when you need them each week. You could even do them all in one week if you wanted.
Your children can work together or do it each individually. You could do the challenges together as a family. So many possibilities to make it work for you!
